Kalopanax septemlobus - 2 quart
Kalopanax septemlobus - 2 quart Castor-aralia is a little-used and little-known deciduous shade tree that over time becomes a magnificent specimen where space allows. The primary objection to this beauty is the sharp, numerous trunk thorns or "prickles" that make it not user-friendly at a young age. The ultimate attraction when it gains some age is the large green foliage creating a tropical-like canopy on a tree that can reach 50 or more. I first saw it in full maturity at Mount Auburn Cemetery outside Boston during an International Plant Propagators Society tour some 20+ years ago. Had to grow it. Fall color in Georgia has been a consistent butter yellow. Bees love the summer flowers. Zones 4 - 7.
